Connecting Three Communities for Biodiversity

Three Communities

BGE+ promotes an integrated approach to biodiversity research, combining genomic technologies with taxonomic expertise to generate knowledge that can boost research, conservation, and policy. For that purpose, the project brings together three large, complementary communities of practice. The three of them are committed to building a coordinated European infrastructure for biodiversity genomics – one that will allow experts to work in a connected system of shared resources, technology and data.

DNA Barcoding Community:

iBOL Europe

The International Barcode of Life Europe (iBOL Europe) focuses on creating DNA reference libraries that help identify species quickly and accurately. These libraries will support species discovery, biomonitoring, and environmental assessments.

Reference Genome Community:

ERGA

The European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA) aims to develop high-quality genome libraries to provide deeper insights into the biological diversity, evolution, and adaptation of species to environmental change.

Taxonomic Community:

CETAF

Taxonomists from the Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities (CETAF) will provide the expertise needed to identify, describe, classify, and understand species. Their work is essential for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the biodiversity knowledge generated by the project and beyond.
