Goals
Biodiversity Genomics Europe plus (BGE+) will harness the power of genomic science and DNA-based reference resources to strengthen taxonomic approaches for biodiversity in Europe, enhancing understanding of species and genetic diversity, widening participation, building skills, developing protocols and solutions, enhancing policy uptake, and developing the foundations of a European biodiversity genomics system.
Innovation
BGE+ will boost innovative developments to generate both accessibility wider participation in genomics across Europe. The project will work on standardised approaches both at the laboratory and in the realm of bioinformatics.
Policy and Application
Scientific knowledge is as valuable as it can inform environmental policy decisions. BGE+ will work with stakeholders to ensure that genomic knowledge can be translated into practical applications for biodiversity monitoring, conservation, and environmental management. This work will connect with European current biodiversity policies and programmes.
Research infrastructure
To fully realise the potential of biodiversity genomics, Europe needs sustainable services and strong coordination across countries. Working closely with researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders, BGE+ will help lay the foundations of what a future European biodiversity genomics infrastructure could look like.
