Course overview
The course aims to provide knowledge and practical skills about turning DNA-based biodiversity outputs such as DNA barcode reference libraries, DNA metabarcoding datasets, or reference genomes into citable, peer-reviewed, FAIR publications using Pensoft’s journals and the ARPHA/ORPHO platforms as the working environment.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the publishing process, in particular data publishing and data papers.
- Choose the right article type and venue depending on the type of DNA data.
- Prepare sequence, sample and occurrence data in a format that it is publishable, including the reporting of accessions, metadata and licenses following established standards.
- Draft a data paper, DNA Barcode Release or genome report, including automated import from BOLD, GBIF/IPT or ENA.
- Anticipate editors and reviewers’ expectations to avoid the most common reasons for rejection.
