Open Calls – Biodiversity Genomics Europe – ERGA
(from www.erga-biodiversity.eu)
Three calls are currently open through the genome stream of Biodiversity Genomics Europe (ERGA) that will allow the wider European research community to support the project’s mission in different ways. The open calls include funding opportunities for sampling European biodiversity hotspots; developing biodiversity genomics applications in Europe and proposing and providing samples of European species for high-quality genome sequencing.
The call for Expressions of Interest for parties to organise BioBlitz events in biodiversity hotspots within Europe is open until July 15th, 2023. The BioBlitz events can include scientific activities as well as citizen science activities related to the topic. All Expressions of Interest must include DNA barcoding, preservation of fresh specimen samples suitable for reference genome sequencing, and a plan for vouchering, metadata collection suitability and permission clearance for sampling and sample export. More information about the call and details on the application process are described in this document.
The call for Expressions of Interest for parties to develop Case Studies that build biodiversity genomic applications in Europe is open until July 23rd, 2023. The case studies should demonstrate the application of reference genomes and genomic data in one of two topics:
1) The Conservation of Species.
2) Species of economic importance or disease control.
All Expressions of Interest must include:(i) focus on a biological system in Europe, suitable to develop one of the two application types;(ii) genomic analyses based on at least one high quality reference genome and additional downstream data;(iii) a plan for sampling, genomic data collection and data analysis; (iv) a plan for stakeholder engagement. More information about the call and details on the application process are described in this document.
The second round of species proposals & sampling by the European community will be open from May 31st to October 1st 2023. Suggested species will undergo a thorough evaluation process and a number of species will be selected for sequencing based on the process established by ERGA’s Sampling & Sample Processing Committee.
